Clubs & Affinity Groups
We offer a number of opportunities for students to further their skill sets and interests with like-minded peers.
Student Government
Students can develop their leadership skills and also provide a valuable service to the BAA community through Student Government, which is divided into three branches:
Executive Officers
Executive Officers oversee all Student Government activities and communication with the student body, faculty, and the Governing Board. Elections are held in May or June of the prior year.
Arts Representatives
The Arts Representatives are the spokespeople for each Major and present student, academic, and artistic concerns to the faculty. Arts Representatives nominations and elections are held at the beginning of each school year.
Class Representatives
Class Representatives are the spokespeople for each grade level and organize grade-level and school-wide activities and fundraising. Class Representatives also serve on City and State-Wide Youth Councils. Class Representative nominations are held at the beginning of each school year.
National Honor Society
The National Honor Society (NHS) is an organization that recognizes high school students. The purpose of the NHS is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. Students who excel academically and demonstrate an interest in service are eligible to participate. Induction into NHS requires the student to maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher, attend at least 80% of NHS meetings at BAA, and participate in a group and individual service project for at least 50 hours throughout the year. Induction occurs every spring after participants have fulfilled their service requirements.
Student Alliance for Equality (S.A.F.E.)
The Student Alliance for Equality at BAA invites all students (heterosexual, Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, or Queer) to discuss their feelings and fears regarding identity, sexual orientation, and gender identity in a safe place. The mission of S.A.F.E. is to fight prejudice and discrimination, which impact the lives of everyone in the student body.
S.A.F.E. is student run and advised by a faculty member who offers resources, support, and facilitates discussions. S.A.F.E. is designed to help reduce anti-gay violence, harassment, and discrimination by educating the school community about homophobia and by encouraging a greater degree of understanding from students and school personnel.
