Programs
Our school serves as the creative junction where life experience meets ambition and intellectual curiosity. We offer unique opportunities in a caring environment for students to grow as artists while preparing them for the next step. More so, students are able to develop their own voices and use them in thoughtful, intentional ways, whether it be for their art or to inspire change.
Expanded Learning Time
We have eight hours of instruction every day at BAA, giving equal weight to both the arts and academics. Our extended learning time provides 300 additional hours per year of comprehensive study and practice.
College Prep
In addition to studying in one of four arts majors, our students’ schedules incorporate a full college preparatory course load, including humanities, mathematics, science, and a foreign language. Students can also obtain college credit at our seven ProArts Consortium colleges.
Growth Mindset
We believe in taking creative risks and setting goals. At BAA, we want our students to challenge the status quo and grow personally as well as professionally so that they can become leaders in their fields of interest as well as their communities.
Full Inclusion
We’re always focused on what our students can do, not what they can’t. Every conversation we have begins with a student’s strengths. As a full inclusion school, students with disabilities learn alongside their peers.

Humanities
Humanities is the study of English language arts, philosophy, history, and social studies.

World Languages
In BAA World Languages courses, students acquire language skills through theme based units, which incorporate students’ artistic strengths and creative interests.
Since the Boston Arts Academy was founded in 1998, the ProArts Consortium has remained key partners in our school’s growth and development. The ProArts Consortium is an association of seven internationally known institutions of higher learning that specialize in the visual arts, performing arts, and architecture: Berklee College of Music, Boston Architectural College, The Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Emerson College, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, New England Conservatory, and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
Our ties with the ProArts Consortium enable us to expand educational opportunities and resources for our students. We are proud to have some ProArts faculty teaching our students as well as some of our students obtaining college credit at the ProArts member institutions.

BAA Summer Reading
Offered exclusively for BAA students, our Summer Reading Program has served over 400 struggling readers. As we participate in a grade blind admission process some of our artists have a gap in their literacy skills.
The Summer Reading Program teaches intensive word analysis techniques, vocabulary, and comprehension strategies through reading material that inspires and motivates BAA students to think deeply about issues that matter to them. Our goal is to position our graduates not only as passionate, gifted artists but also as articulate scholars.
Summer at BAA
The following programs are offered in partnership with the Boston Public Schools Arts Office and are open to all BPS students. The schedule is flexible. Students can choose to participate in the first week, second week, or the full two-week program, culminating in a final showcase presented at a professional venue. No experience is necessary and all levels are welcome.
Summer Dance
The BAA Summer Dance Program offers professional training for dancers looking for rigorous study to push them to the next level. We offer training to students with varying levels of experience, and students audition the first day to be placed in a group of their peers. The final showcase will be performed with our resident professional dance companies.
Summer Film
The Summer Film Program emphasizes the whole student: creativity, technique, mindfulness, and curiosity. Over the course of two weeks, students are able to be involved in the entire filmmaking process from pre-production planning to post-production to create their own films. Students will also learn the basics of location scouting, screenwriting, lighting, sound, budget development, and more in an individualized learning environment of 12 students. Filmmaking is a highly collaborative art form so our program works on building interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work as a part of a team.
