Theatre
Our Theatre programs foster artists who are concerned, sensitive to cross-cultural understanding, and passionate about social change. We develop a unique voice and understand the power of that voice within a community.
We combine essential foundational skills in acting with introductory courses in technical theater, film and playwriting to emphasize the concept that theatre is a collaborative art form. Every creative mind counts, and every student participates with the appropriate energy, effort, and attitude.
Following sophomore year, students are invited to deepen their study in one of four concentrations: Acting, Filmmaking, Multimedia Entertainment Production, and Technical Theatre. This extensive study in the arts is balanced by a strong academic base in the Humanities, STEAM, and Literary Arts, preparing students for whatever path they choose to pursue. We offer multiple opportunities for students to connect with working theatre professionals and hone their skills through festival and summer acting programs, master classes with visiting teaching artists and industry professionals, ensemble projects written, directed and produced by students, outside internships, and community service projects.

Other Requirements
All ninth grade Theatre students usher and help with strike for BAA main stage production and receive a grade for this in Theatre Arts I.
Juries and Assessments
At the end of the first semester, freshmen Theatre students participate in a mid-year review, where their growth and skill in a formal presentation of movement, vocal technique, monologues and scenes is assessed. Students are required to prepare a two-character scene and one monologue. A panel of Theatre faculty and outside professionals will review the work. A portfolio review will also analyze the student’s ability to document their work, both in their theatre journal and in their digital portfolio.

All tenth grade students will be part of a tech crew and help with strike.
Juries and Assessments
The formative assessment in tenth grade reviews students’ ability to maintain a ‘C’ or above in all arts classes, seriousness of purpose, participating in class and collaboration with ensemble members, ability to write play or character analysis, and ability to memorize and rehearse assigned work.

Juries and Assessments
All seniors in the acting concentration will be required to demonstrate what they have learned over their four years at BAA. Their Senior Showcase will be either a one-act play or ten-minute scene and monologue. An outside panel of professional theatre artists will attend and critique these performances. All seniors in the filmmaking concentration will be required to make two short films and write a 25-page screenplay. Seniors in the production concentrations must complete a professional outside internship.
